SHARING OUR EXPERIENCE WITH OTHERS
One of the Core Values of the First® Lego League is to share our experiences with others.
We hope to show how much we have learned through FLL Robotics, how much fun it can be, and that using science, technology, engineering and math can be pretty cool!
Helped start another team . . .
The Moovers were instrumental in starting a team called, "The AMOEBA JEMZ" through the Stevenson High School Patriot Recreational Education Program (PREP). Both teams competed at the same regional tournament where they rooted for and helped each other out during the competition. We were so happy to see them win the Champions Award at the regional tournament and advance to state!
May Watts Elementary School Science Fair
The Moovers exhibited their robotics skills at the May Watts Elementary School Science Fair in Naperville, Illinois on October 3, 2012. The fair was organized by teachers and parents aiming to start FLL robotics teams in their school district to foster interest in STEM.
Tooling & Machinery Association Annual Fundraising Gala
The Moovers were guests of the Tooling & Machinery Association (TMA) at their annual fundraising gala held on September 29, 2012. The TMA is a not-for-profit organization of precision manufacturing and supplier companies in the greater Chicago area. Their mission and purpose is to recognize manufacturers as value-added producers of goods and services, as well as creators of high quality jobs for Chicago area citizens. The TMA supports industry by providing educational opportunities, industry representation, and services to foster the global competitiveness of member companies. Many thanks to the TMA for their generosity and genuine interest in FLL. We had a great time meeting so many of you!
Stevenson High School Outreach Education Program
Soon after becoming the 2012 State Champions, the Moovers applied for and received funding from their school district to start a Lego Robotics club at their middle school. In April of 2012, funding was also obtained to start a team -- The T.R.O.L.L.S. (Teammates Rolling Onto Lego League Success) -- as part of the Stevenson High School Outreach Education Program. The Moovers helped mentor the T.R.O.L.L.S. at their weekly meetings, and cheered them on at the Senior Solutions Regional Competition in Mount Prospect.
STEMapalooza!
The Moovers performed robot demonstrations, talked about their research project and explained the FLL program to over 270 girls at the 1st annual STEMapalooza Expo held on April 28, 2012, which was organized and hosted by the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana to promote interest in young women in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering & math).
Navistar STEM Event
On February 20, 2012, the Moovers were invited to exhibit their robotics skills and promote the FLL program at a special STEM event at Navistar's headquarters in Lisle. The event was co-hosted by the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana and Navistar, with the aim of promoting girls' involvement in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The girls also participated in a focus group to discuss how to get more young women interested in these areas.
